Steps To EnsureSecurity

  • American State Bank will never ask you for a PASSWORD or PIN number in an email or over the phone.
  • Do not give anyone information about your account or any personal information over the telephone unless you have initiated the call and are sure you are talking to a legitimate business that you are soliciting.
  • If you receive an email message warning you of a problem with your account, DO NOT click on a link to address the problem via the Internet. Instead, contact the bank in a manner that you KNOW is legitimate.
  • Do not give a PIN or Password to anyone for any reason.
  • Do not leave your computer unattended while you are logged in to a website that contains any private or personal information about you.
  • Always make sure you have antivirus software installed and the definitions are kept up to date.
  • Keep your operating system on your computer up to date with the latest updates that deal with critical security issues. In most cases, this can be made an automatic process. If you are not sure how to do this, read the help that deals with security updates on your computer.
  • When you are not using your computer for Internet use, disconnect it from the Internet or turn it off.
  • Always use strong passwords to guard your personal information. A strong password is one that contains a combination of "UPPERCASE" letters, "lowercase" letters, "numbers" and "Special Characters" i.e. (! % ^ & $)
  • Change your password on a regular basis.
  • Do not store your password anywhere that it may be seen or obtained by unauthorized persons.
  • Do not email personal or private information because email is sent in "plain text" and may be seen by anyone on the Internet. You should always be sure when sending personal information via the Internet that you are on a legitimate website that is secure.
